Want to know more about L. Allen and how it all started?
Here’s a Q&A with the designer himself!
What made you want to get into fashion design?
My grandmother and my aunt are my main sources of inspiration.
Who is your favorite designer and why?
Ralph Lauren. He is someone who believed in himself and who had a group of people that believed in the same thing.
How would you describe your design style?
I would call it southern chic, which I define as elegant and relaxing just like its southerners.
Where do you get your inspirations for your designs?
My inspiration comes from everything that is around me in the south, whether it’s our southern history, southern design, coast lines, mountains, architecture, etc.
Who do you design for?
People who want to experience that southern charm.
Do you try to keep up with trends or do you prefer to create your own?
Trends are fun and give fashion a fun edge, but honestly a trend is just that, trendy. That is something short lived. I love creating pieces that are going to last a lifetime.
How do your clothes differ from other designers?
For most designers their clothes are just independent pieces of garment. My collections are expressions of the person wearing them. Each time someone puts on one of my pieces I want them to feel the elegance I conceived when designing the pieces. Clothing is an expression, an attitude, and you should feel amazing in what you wear.
Men: A suit and nice button up shirt.
Women: A pencil skirt and low cut blouse.
What is your favorite article of clothing in your closet?
My trench coat and tailored suit.
